The RTR license, also called the Pilot RTR license or radio operator license, is required before you can talk to air traffic control. The exam covers radio theory in the RTR syllabus and a spoken practical test. If you are mapping the whole route, read how to get an RTR license, the CPL syllabus and how to become a pilot. Good pilot study material such as ICAO Doc 9432 makes the manual of radio telephone exam far easier.
Frequently asked questions
What is the RTR license and who needs it?
RTR(A) is the Radio Telephony Restricted (Aeronautical) certificate. Student pilots, CPL aspirants and airline cadets need it to operate an aircraft radio. It is a standard step on the way to a pilot licence.
What is the difference between RTR Part 1 and Part 2?
RTR written (Part 1) tests theory: regulations, Q codes, weather reports, navigation aids and phraseology. RTR practical (Part 2) is an oral exam where you speak radio calls for a full flight scenario.
What do I get in the free preview?
One free chapter of Part 1 and one free scenario of Part 2 for every new account. Each preview can be used once, so start when you have time to finish it. The study guide and study material articles stay free.
How do I practise the RTR practical exam at home?
Open the Part 2 simulator: it starts in your chosen layout — Basic for quick drills, Advanced exam console or the Professional exam-paper view. Read the flight details, type or speak each call and compare with the model answer. Then book a live mock test for real examiner pressure.
Is this enough for the manual of radio telephone exam?
Our chapters follow the RTR syllabus including ICAO Doc 9432 phraseology. Read the PDFs in our study material section alongside the questions for the best result.
How long does a plan last and how do I pay?
Every plan gives 30 days of access. Pay securely with UPI, cards, net banking or wallet through Razorpay. Access starts automatically after payment.
Does it work on mobile, tablet and landscape mode?
Yes. PilotRadio is built mobile first and adapts to phones, tablets and landscape screens. The chart viewer in the advanced simulator supports pinch zoom.
